EMERSON’S EDUCATIONAL COURSE OFFERINGS FEATURE PROCESS AUTOMATION TRAINING
Emerson Process Management has announced the availability of its 2008 Global Course Catalog, available in print or CD.

The catalog describes more than 300 training courses designed to facilitate the engineering, operation, maintenance, and optimization of industrial process automation systems and devices. It provides course descriptions, schedules, and sites for classes on process control, including the PlantWeb® digital plant architecture, FOUNDATION fieldbus technology, and various automation systems, including the DeltaV® digital automation system,  Ovation® expert control system, PROVOX®, RS3®, and WDPF control systems. 

Other courses cover field instrumentation that powers PlantWeb, including control valves and digital valve controllers, measurement and flow control devices, and analytical instrumentation.  Additional course offerings include natural gas regulation and control, terminal automation, electrical systems, and plant safety.

Brian Smith ReceiveS ISA’s Distinguished Society Service Award
Brian Smith has received ISA’s Distinguished Society Service Award in recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the Society and its Members. The award was presented at the ISA Honors and Awards Gala, held 1 October 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Houston in Houston, TX.

Smith has been an ISA Member for 29 years and an ISA Senior Member since 1988. He is currently the Sarnia Section Membership and Marketing Chairman, and has served as Sarnia Section President, Vice President, Treasurer, Webmaster, and Electronic Bulletin Board Chairman. He is also the Safety Division Webmaster and Newsletter Editor.

A Senior Instrument/Electrical Designer at NOVA Chemicals in Sarnia, ON, he is responsible for Safety Systems SIL analysis, design, installation, and testing. He was responsible for the instrument and electrical design of the $130 million Styrene Upgrade Project, which included three Safety Instrumented Systems. He has published dozens of papers and articles and earned the Process Measurement and Control Division’s Best Paper Award.

GLOBAL PETROLEUM SHOW AND PTAC PARTNER FOR INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT WORLD’S LARGEST OIL & GAS EVENT
Global Petroleum Show (GPS), the world’s largest oil and gas event, has announced the addition of an inaugural international conference – Global Petroleum Conference – to be held June 10 & 11, 2008 in the Palomino Rooms at Stampede Park, Calgary, AB.

Presented in partnership with PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC), GPS will integrate this world-class technical conference alongside the exhibition, which will feature 2,000 exhibiting companies and over 60,000 expected registered attendees, and will cover over 650,000 net square feet of technologies, products and services for the global oil and gas industry. Exhibition dates for GPS are June 10-12, 2008.

Global Petroleum Conference will be international in scope, and focus on current issues in the hydrocarbon energy industry such as:  technologies to reduce overall exploration, development, operating and G&A costs; methods to minimize the environmental footprint; innovations for improving recovery of conventional and unconventional resources; and strategies for ensuring more marketable refined petroleum and petrochemical products for export to existing and emerging markets.  The Conference will feature over 100 speakers during the course of two days, and be comprised of top executives from producing/operating companies, service companies, government ministers, international experts and technology vendors.

Cooperative Agreement will Advance Next Generation of Cyber-Security Solutions for Industrial Automation
Wurldtech™ Security Technologies, Vancouver, BC. a leading provider of cyber-security solutions to SCADA, process-control and critical infrastructure worldwide, has announced a three-party cooperative agreement with Tegron and FluidIQs to develop and deliver advanced security solutions for the global industrial automation market.

Balluff acquires SIE Sensorik Industrie
Balluff Inc. has announced that its parent company, Balluff GmbH, located in Neuhausen, Germany, has acquired SIE Sensorik Industrie GmbH, based in Viernheim, Germany.  SIE is a leader in capacitive sensors.

“The Balluff Group is one of the world’s leading providers of sensors for factory automation,” comments Kent Howard, President of Balluff, Inc. “With this acquisition, we’ve added increased design expertise and production capability in the area of capacitive sensors to complement our present offering of sensors to help meet the needs of our customers.”

The previous owners of SIE will remain in place as chief officers until December 2008 to ensure the company’s smooth integration into the Balluff Group.
